The spirit of giving was on full display at Bueker Middle School at their recent Owl Pride Assembly to close out the second quarter. BMS students and members of the BMS Parent Teacher Organization presented a check in the amount of $1,250 to Nancy Harris, Chief Financial Officer of Fitzgibbon Hospital, to help support the Community Cancer Center.
The funds were a portion of the $8,800 raised earlier in the fall at the BMS Walk-a-thon, which was held in conjunction with Pink Week. The BMS PTO will use the remaining donations to support various projects at Bueker to support students.
BMS students Emily Reith, Cort Howery, and Cheyann Norman presented the check on behalf of the BMS PTO and BMS student body. PTO Officers Miranda Fuchs, Kathy Papreck, Peggy Sherman, and Sarah Wilkinson were also on hand to award the check to Fitzgibbon, and to announce the winners of pizza and donut parties for a handful of homeroom classes.
In addition to the support shown by our BMS PTO, families and friends, this could not have happened without the helping hand of community organizations. The generosity of Community Bank, Green Printers, KMMO, Peter’s Orchards, Marshall High School’s Ed Rising Program, Missouri Valley College’s Education Department, and Wood & Huston Bank all were critical in the event being such a success. Their willingness to support Marshall Public Schools is greatly appreciated and a sign to our students that when we all come together as one community, we can achieve great things.
