Many have heard the saying that variety is the spice of life. Eastwood students have had a great variety of tasks on STEAM Days, which allows there to be something for everyone. The final STEAM Day of the year certainly was no different.
In addition to the third and fourth grade mobile activity, four classes were tickled to visit the Makerspace Bus. The littleBits pieces that were used earlier in the year during a STEAM activity reappeared, with some additional pieces to use. Students used their prior knowledge about input, output, switches, and circuits to power an automatic tickle machine! To make the tickle machine even more snazzy, students were able to build in a buzzer to make noise. Students used the battery, switch, buzzer, motor, and feather to create their tickle machine. The feather was attached to the motor, so that once it was running, would spin. Part of the challenge was assembling the pieces in an order that would allow the motor to run without having to run the buzzer. Students used the switch to turn the buzzer on and off.
After so many students were tickled to build a tickle machine and test it out, the batteries wore down, the day came to a close, and the bus rolled on.
